Research on the Characteristics of Thermosyphon Embankment Damage and Permafrost Distribution Based on Ground-Penetrating Radar: A Case Study of the Qinghai–Tibet Highway

In order to research the special embankment (thermosyphon embankment) damages and distribution of permafrost under Qinghai–Tibet Highway (QTH) embankment. The section K2952–K2953, which is a typical representative QTH, was chosen for detection in determine sources damages. this study, performance characteristics embankment, active layer, table found ground-penetrating radar (GPR) images were researched, combined with multi-source. According findings, construction has stabilized effect on table. Under unemployed thermosyphon section, good structural integrity continuity, at depth around 5 m. continuity poor, there localized degradation, being approximately 6 m deep. main cause irregular settlement other damage presence loose area base Although both sides also plays role lifting table, it not ideal managing high embankments where type high-temperature ice content sunny–shady slope obvious. results described article can therefore provide crucial foundation highway regions future.
